Kelley Walker.

There's a Kelley Walker show opening tomorrow night at Manchester Art Gallery details HERE. Up top is a little film about his work. It's in French. I'm trying to add class to the blog. If like me you struggle with English let alone another language there's an interview HERE .
Today town was all cordoned off around spinningfields while they took THIS dick to court. Police everywhere, coppers with guns helicopters the works. That will only panda to him and all the other little shits who have watched too much telly and listened to too much shit rap. No they should of handcuffed him, made him wear a dress and took him to court in a fucking icecream van.

I'm not sure why they say the postman always rings twice. In my experience he 'knocks' once and fucks off before I get to the door...

I bet Artist and postman Kevin Boniface doesn't do that though. I bet he's too curious, looking for his next idea for a film or book or drawing or sculptor, no wonder my letters are always late. I love this fella's work have done since way back in 2008 when I saw THIS film and the book'Lost In The Post' which he made together with Manchester based photographers Shaw & Shaw. He's got THIS blog on the go as well. Art and humour for me a heady mix. And another book 'The Most difficult Thing Ever'. See more of Kevin and come to think of it his misses Georgia's work as well HERE.

MINE.

Image Jonathan Blaustein

Jonathan Blaustein's latest series MINE looks at items found in his back garden sorry yard he's American. He takes the stuff found in his yard and makes Sculptures out of it and then photographs them. Well it is his land and his stuff so he can do what he likes with it. Nice thought provoking piece and he's not even had to leave home to do it. HERE for the photo's and statement. Nice article about it HERE as well. More links for yer money at MANCHESTERPHOTOGRAPHY.

Crazy New York Time Machine.

Big fan of Brian Rose. I've featured him before HERE. This post though is to tell you about his new book which generously can be seen HERE. It's a blend of photographs from 1980 and photographs from 2010 taken in New York New Yorks lower East Side. Having never been to New York New York (sorry is that getting tedious?) I don't really know were it is (the lower East not New York I'm not that thick although having said that it's pretty self explanatory so maybe I am anyway) it looks though, how I would like to imagine New York. It looks like the town of the cop shows of my youth, all KojakEE. This is not just left hand picture 1980 right hand picture 2010 same view stuff it's more sophisticated than that. We're dipped into the past and back again, you lose track of whether you are back then or there now. Despite the odd ubiquitous glass & chrome building it's great to see that the character of the place seems to remain. The book serves as a record of  continuity of a certain aspect of a cities life, the past merging with the present as it does in the great cities. HERE for more of Brian Rose's work.

ILLUME

ILLUME is the title of the Blackpool & The Fylde College graduate show taking place at
THE CUBE GALLERY Manchester between the 18th & 22nd June and at THE HOXTON GALLERY London between 25th & 29th June. I've known loads of great photographers who've come out of Blackpool over the years and this looks like another 'bumber crop'. You can see work by the graduates thanks to the wonder of SOURCE MAGAZINE'S online graduate list thingy HERE. Above is an image by DOUG MITCHELL who's work stood out from the online selection. I look forward to seeing it all on the walls.

Oh NOoooo... phew that's OK Then.

copyright Stephen Gill, I think.

I shat it when I saw that one of my favourite photographers Stephen Gill who for my money is one of the most original working today, had used 'Found Photography' for his latest book 'Hackney Kisses'. But it's OK, it's cool it's got his gentle humour running through. Everything that bloody man touches, even smashing blackberries with a hammer ends up as winning work. Makes you bloody sick.
